Best Way To Clean Hunting Knife?

By Jeff On October 15, 2009 Under Knife Hunting

I used my Buck knife to field dress some deer and now have to clean it. Have boiled in soapy water in the past but does not do the best job. Any ideas?

I usually just run hot water on the blade and handle and scrub a little with dish washing liquid. I have also had good results with Fast Orange hand Cleaner. It will take just about anything off the blade and it gives the blade a natural luster.
just put a little Fast Orange on the blade, scrub it a little with a sponge or rag and rinse it with hot water. It should clean up nice.

You can boil it in water, scrub it with a toothbrush, soak it in hydrogen peroxide and then soak it in rubbing alcohol if you want it to be free of all possible germs. If you just want to clean it, let it take a run through the dishwasher on the hottest rinse water setting; just don’t use the heated dryer setting. When the dishwasher is done, take the knife out, dry thoroughly and then give a light coating of 3-in-1 oil making sure to work the oil down into the moving parts or it might rust up on ya.

Soap and water. Scrub with a plastic bristle brush…stiff toothbrush or one from your gun cleaning kit. If it is rusty, spray a little CLP on it, and scrub with a plastic bristle brush. Then clean the clp off with rubbing alcohol, followed by soap and water.
