Function Survival

Vitamin D is increasingly considered as nutrients for the prevention of cancer, such as the number of prior clinical studies have linked higher blood levels of this hormone-like vitamin, and calcium (which is regulated by vitamin D), and a decreased risk of colorectal cancer as well as other cancers.

Is well understood role of vitamin D than the Survival factor in patients with already diagnosed with colon cancer. Now, the recently updated clinical research study from Harvard University, just published in the British Journal of Cancer, suggests that higher vitamin D and colorectal cancer may be related to living in a much higher probability to cope with the third most common cause of cancer death in the United States.

The authors clinical research study volunteers were analyzed in the massive Nurses Health Study. A total of 1107 volunteers had been diagnosed with colon or rectal cancer, Between 1986 and 2004, after the accession of this long-term future of public health research. Using a previously validated scoring system, that accurately predicts vitamin D in the blood, researchers estimate Survival rates for colorectal cancer in these patients as a function of their vitamin D results. (It is important to note that the vitamin D results were calculated prior to diagnosis for colorectal cancer in these patients is optional.), the results were quite large.

Vitamin D Results of the 1017 colorectal cancer patients were broken up into five different areas, and patients with the highest vitamin D results were then compared with the lowest "fifth" for cancer-related mortality and overall mortality. This analysis showed that patients with most vitamin D had 50 percent of the results lower risk of dying from colorectal cancer in the course of this investigation, and 38 percent lower risk of dying from all causes, compared with patients with is the lowest vitamin D results.

Although the precise mechanisms by which vitamin D and calcium may reduce the risk of colorectal cancer and the risk of death after diagnosis of colon cancer, are still studied, it is already a fascinating data show that vitamin D supplementation can up-regulate activity of genes as well as premalignant and malignant colorectal tumors, which in turn increase mortality, abnormal cells that form these tumors (ie apoptosis through a pathway).

Although not a nutrient or a medication has been shown to inhibit all colorectal cancers, or to improve the whole colon and rectal cancers, when they develop, are more and more high-quality clinical data showing that high blood levels of vitamin D associated with a decreased risk of premalignant and malignant colorectal tumors. Now, based on this new study's findings show so that higher vitamin D may also improve survival after diagnosis of colorectal cancer as well. Effect of vitamin D is for colorectal cancer the survival of the mirror similar findings that I have recently been reported for breast cancer (breast cancer recurrence, Death & Vitamin D).

Find much more detailed discussion of the role of vitamin D and other dietary and nutritional factors, prevention of cancer in my forthcoming book, "Cancer Prevention a guide for mankind. "
