Green Beret

Do you have a choice to going the green Beret or do you earn it?

When signing up for the Army do you have a choice going to the Green Beret or is it something you earn?

well. you do earn it. but the green beret is the a symbol for special forces. so you only get the green beret if you pass green beret training aka special forces training. So if you get accepted to try out for special forces, and you pass all the training which is very hard, then you are awarded the green beret.
