How Do I Clean A Knife? A Hunting Knife? Its Pretty Old And Dirty. I Wanna Sell It. Any Tips?

By Jeff On December 1, 2009 Under Knife Hunting

found a knife in the attic. its about 9 inches long in total, it opens up, its a bit slow and it feels old, but i want to clean it and sell it. What can i clean it with to improve its condition?

DON’T use aggressive things like steel wool or files or sandpaper! Get some BAM oven cleaner, and let the Sulfamic acid do the work of dissolving the rust and crud. Soak and rub, soak and rub. It will leave the steel alone, and you should too. This will also remove every bit of oil as well, so oil it up when done cleaning, to prevent further corrosion. Regards, Larry.

if you can, take it apart. use silver polisher and then thoroughly rinse off. after lube the hinge from the middle and wipe off excess oil. make sure there is no dirt in it. i could give more details if i knew a brand name and product name, but this should help. remember to sharpen it the old fashioned way (whetstone) not in a machine as the old metal may break.
best answer please,
Alex

Jewelry cleaner will definitely make it shine. dust it off first. and you have to make sure to get it all off after, the residue will form a film and its tough to get off. and sharpen it. with a stone. but be careful.

Clean it will gun solvent first and then put a layer of gun oil on it.
