A hunting knife and indeed most fixed blade knives fall within VA&#039;s legal prohibition on &quot;dirks&quot; and &quot;bowie knives.&quot;  It is illegal to carry such knives concealed, but there are exceptions.  It is legal to carry 
1) to and from a place of purchase or repair, 
2) to and from a place of exhibition, provided it is wrapped up or locked in a box securely
3) on your own property or place of business
Otherwise, it must be carried openly.</description>
