Knife Beautiful

Knife Beautiful
Cleaning water damaged knife handles?

My EX, used to insist in washing my wood handled knives in the dishwasher. Needless to say, the beautiful wood finish is gone and what remains is a dirty wax like build-up. Before sanding the knife handles, is there something to remove the wax like build-up ?

Thanks......

My instinct would be to try (first) a tiny bit of paint-stripper, ,-following the instructions very carefully. The residue is probably a resin of some sort, and will respond to caustic soda (paint stripper).

As a test, just try it on one small section, and when you wash or scrape it off, it will foam, (with very hot water, -even boiling water) you might find, with a bit of luck, that you've done the trick. Don't leave it in the hot water too long though, because it can set even harder than before, if it cools.
