Knife Help – Which One #2?

By Jeff On December 15, 2009 Under Knife Hunting

I asked this question yesterday:http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;…
I got great answers! There are so many knives out thereI'm rather shocked.
Anyway turns out my brother would want something for camping, whittling away on some wood...
Would I be going over board in buying a Buck or another hunting knife if it wasn't used for hunting but more camping and wood whittling?
I got a private message about this Paul Presto Knife...http://lonewolfknives.com/store/pages/pr…
Ignoring the price, would I be going "all out" with buying that? Should I just stick to a Leatherman Multi-Tool?
Thanks SO much for your help!!

multi tools are good and a must have but you also need a “Camp Knife”…Buck makes a nice little fixed blade with a green Kraton Handle and a Black blade for about 40 at Wal MArt

Well, I think everyone should have a multi-tool, i carry a leatherman wave everywhere I go and is worth every penny I paid for it. If you are looking for a good camp knife though for around 50 or 60 dollars, look into the classic kabar, people will argue that its not the best knife out there, and they may be right. but its definatly an allround knife that any knife owner should own at some point and time

No man should be in the woods without a multi-tool. Leatherman and Gerber are two of the best-known names. I’ve had both and they are both more than capable. You should be able to pick them up locally or buy online. The Paul Preston knife is awesome, but not something I’d use for camping and whittling.

I agree! Buy a multi-tool – every outdoors person should have one. Next, you should buy a solid fixed blade (4″ – 5″ as recoomended by Ray Mears from Bushcraft and many others).
The Lonewolf knife is more ornamental than anything. I’ve broke or bent a couple folders at the pivot. They’re not my prefered knife.http://www.knivesofalaska.com/catalog/pr…
The link is to the knife that I carry.

it depends what its 4 :)
if u need it 4 carving and general use, a swiss army knife
if u need it for errrr personal protection or similar then u cant go wrong with a good ol’ combat knife.
in fact, just by the bloody combat knife(even if theyre a tiny bit illegal) those things rock!!!

A buck 110 folder is a great knife. It has a 4 inch blade i think, and it is around $30. They come with a leather sheath. Some used to come with a little 2 inch folding knife too, but it isn’t really worth the extra $10.

it sounds like your brother wants a buck model 110. it’s the most copied lockback on the planet. and it’s in your price range.
