If you didnt have a choice, I think it could be done.
I have seen some natives in the Philippines hang from a vine and take swings at a wild boar using a club. Eventually they killed it.
Could you imagine yourself doing that.
I’m 5′7″ 250lbs I couldn’t even climb a tree.
Knife Hunting?
Does anyone hunt deer or any game with a knife? Using it to kill the animal instead of a bow or gun.

DOUBT YOU WOULD HAVE MUCH SUCCESS ON DEER
HOWEVER I HAVE HEARD (READ) AND SEEN FILM CLIPS OF PEOPLE THAT HUNT WILD HOGS WITH A KNIFE
THEY USE DOGS TO CORNER THE HOG AND JUMP IN WITH A KNIFE TO DISPATCH THEM
I BELIEVE THE LIFE EXPECTANCY OF THE HUNTER IS QUITE SHORT

You mean like our ancestors did? Wouldn’t that be like hunting for water…with a fork? Sorry I’m a knife guy but this is a silly question.

no, because you risk maiming the game, not making a clean kill. you risk hurting yourself as well. only attempt this in a survival situation, rambo.

No. If you must hunt, kill the animal quickly and as painlessly to the animal as possible.

Response to poster above: “It has been done, but that doesn’t make it right (or legal… its illegal in all 50 states). As militantly pro-hunting as I am, this is one place that I would make an exception.”
Why would it be illegal. Seems to me that this is a little more of a fair fight!! How can you be pro-hunting but be against this? Shooting an animal from 300yds away is kinda chicken sh it if you ask me. This hunting with a knife is a real sport! Its you against them mono-a-mono, hes got just as much chance as you do. I like it! Thats a real man and a true hunter.

I saw Rambo do it in “First Blood”… he used it to make a spear and killed a ferrel pig… though, I guess he really wasn’t hunting with a knife if he converted it into a spear… so no… no one hunts big game with a knife.

Check your local game laws, in most states that would be a crime.

It is illegal. They will take your game and give you a nice fat fine. They may even suspend your hunting privileges.

I have some friends in south Texas who use knives and spears to hunt feral hogs. They use hunting dogs to locate and corner the hogs and then they approach and kill the hogs with their knives and spears. It is a dangerous method of hunting, but these guys really get into it. Way more challenging than shooting an animal from a distance with a rifle or bow and it actually gives the animal a sporting chance to rip the hunter to shreds in the process. If you want a real adrenaline rush, just jump into the middle of a bunch of snarling dogs and an angry hog and try to kill the hog with your knife! I’m sure there will be plenty of anti-hunters who jump all over this one, but keep in mind that this type of hunting takes a lot of guts on the part of the hunter and is far more sporting than taking a long distance shot with a precision firearm.
In response to those below who say this is illegal, I say you’re wrong. Now, hunting deer or other game animals in this way is certainly illegal, but feral hogs are not game animals, so there is no reason why they can’t be hunted like this. At least in the Great State of Texas, they are not considered to be a game animals. They are feral, i.e. non-game, non-native, pest species. They tear up property, destroy habitat that is crucial to the survival of native species. As a pest species, well-known for its depredation of crops, it can be controlled by any means neccessary, including trapping, and hunting with dogs, knives, and spears. So, if you guys think you’re man enough to be a real hunter, then come on down to Texas and let’s see ya jump into that tangle of dogs and hogs. If you think there should be something illegal or inhumane about this, then perhaps you should think twice about how easy it is to draw a bead on a animal that is standing 100 yards or more away from you. I love hunting with rifles and bows, so I’m certainly not knocking it; just making a point.
