Linerlock Knife

question about linerlock knives?

so i have a smith and wesson linerlock knife. when i open my knife it doesn't snap like people say its supposed to. it has a smooth feelin when opening it. when i look at it from the bottom side when opened. the lock in the inside isn't aligned w/ the blade. its more off to the side and it looks like it would slip on me if i were gonna use it.(that thing you push w/ your thumb to unlock and close it.) im new to these knives so i don't know if its supposed to be like that or what?

if the lock is not lining up with the bottom of the blade it will close on you take it back
