When signing up for the Army do you have a choice going to the Green Beret or is it something you earn?

well. you do earn it. but the green beret is the a symbol for special forces. so you only get the green beret if you pass green beret training aka special forces training. So if you get accepted to try out for special forces, and you pass all the training which is very hard, then you are awarded the green beret.

The Motorcycle as we know it is a derived from the two wheeled bicycle. Comparatively its history begins from the middle of the nineteenth century. But within a short span of time, the motorcycle soon caught the imagination of the public .But as with all inventions the motorcycle was also adapted for military use.

The First World War (1914-18) saw the entry of the Motorcycle as an accoutrement to the Military. It was initially put into use as a dispatch rider. Earlier the Army was using horses and the motorcycle was a replacement. The war in Europe launched the motorcycle as part of the military in a big way. The US Army started by using motorcycles for provost duties by the Military Police, both for patrolling and carrying Military Police personnel .In addition the motorbike was also used for escort duties and couriers duties as telecommunication was in its infancy at that time. However the the motorcycle did not find favor with the Allies as a combat vehicle. Their use was confined to behind the battle lines. But the use of the motorcycle with its ability to negotiate difficult terrain as well as movement of Military personnel has made it indispensable for over a hundred years. The motorcycle could also be airdropped along with Para troops to add mobility to the paratroopers.

The use of the Motorcycle by the German Army needs special mention. The German Army used the motorcycle extensively. They also attached a side car to the motorcycle with a machine gun mounted on it. These machines terrorized the populations in the villages of occupied Europe during world war II.They also perfected the use of motorcycles extensively for liaison and reconnaissance purposes. The Bikes they used were BMW, NSU, DKW, and Zundapp. The BMWR/75 motorcycle with a capacity of 746 cc and a horse power of 26 is the best and most versatile of the lot. The German war machine had motorcycle infantry units attached to all their panzer divisions.

The magnitude of motorcycle usage can be seen from the fact that the average infantry division on the Eastern Front against Russia was equipped with 452 motorcycles including those with a sidecar. However the number of motorcycle got reduced to 168 when the infantry divisions began to use the Kubelwagens (This vehicle was designed by Ferdinand Porsche and built by Volkswagen) and Kettenkrads (Motorcycle half trucks). Most early models of German military motorcycles proved unreliable after the invasion of Russia in June 1942, due to the peculiar conditions there and the difficult terrain. Only the BMW R/75 was a success. The Russian Army were so impressed with this bike, that after the war they cannibalized this bike and produced their own bike called the K-M72.

The American Army had also a checkered history as far as use of motorcycles is concerned starting from 1913. The standard machine in use was the Harley-Davidson motorcycle. Harley Davidson produced motor cycles en masse for the United States Armed force. If numbers have a meaning than nearly 90000 bikes were manufactured by the company for the military. A large number were also produced for the Russians. That's a colossal number. Two other motorcycles via 'Scout' and 'Chief' were also patented by The Indian Motorcycle Company, but they could not match the products of Harley Davidson.

The US Army introduced the motorcycle in the Vietnam War. In fact the 'special forces' a specialized group to fight the Viet Cong made extensive use of the motorcycle for their operations. This was followed by the invasion of Iraq and the motorcycle was integral to Army operations during that campaign. More recently, the maneuverability of two-wheeled transport has proved invaluable in Afghanistan where the rugged terrain gives ample scope for operations with a motorcycle. The use of a motorcycle can best be illustrated with the adage that when the going is tough and no road is available the motor cycle can press forward and when there is a smooth road, it can be unchallenged as far as speed is concerned. Motor cycles are also in use by the Armies of China and India. In India the 1955 model Royal Enfield 348cc is still in production and extensively used by the Army Military Police and also for ceremonial duties like out riding for VIP's. Today the Japanese manufacturers, Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki, and Yamaha dominate the large machine market

But the role of a Motorcycle for the military is not likely to diminish in the years to come.

There used to be a time when every time a person laid eyes on a pair of combat boots, they were attached to a military soldier-or at least somewhere in their immediate vicinity. These days, combat boots are still a military must have, but it doesn't stop there. As a matter of fact, they are an ever increasing trend in today's fashion, being worn by both men and women alike as part of a fashion forward outfit. They have hit the runways and the streets as well as the front line, and are just one way for civilian people to show their quiet support for the men and women brave enough to fight for their freedom overseas.

Just because civilian people are donning combat boots and combat-inspired boots does not mean that they are not still in use by the armed services. As a matter of fact, combat boots are some of the most necessary components of a military man or woman's uniform. They have their purpose, and their purpose is to combine protection with function efficiently, so that a soldier is able to do their job efficiently and comfortably as possible.

This is not to say that combat boots are the most comfortable shoes out there, but they are designed for a specific purpose. None of the purposes that are behind the creation of these incredible boots have to do with fashion, which is why it is so interesting that they would be so ingeniously incorporated into today's most innovative fashion trends.

The Fit of a Pair of Combat Boots

One of the most important facets of a pair of combat boots is the way that they fit. These boots must be worn by the wearer for hours and sometimes even days and weeks on end, so comfort is important. While they are not bound to be the most comfortable pair of shoes or boots out there, they are fairly comfortable in the sense that they can be worn without too much detriment to the feet, which is more than can be said for most civilian shoes. As time goes on, they have been innovated to be more comfortable and provide more support, making the walking and running experience a bit more pleasurable and easy on the feet.

Where to Find Combat Boots

If you are in the market for an authentic pair of combat boots, whether it be for military service or just for fashion reasons, you can check out an army or navy military surplus store. These stores are where the best prices on any authentic military wear can be found, and they are perfect for a great pair of combat boots.

What a better way to show your support for your men and women in uniform than to sport military inspired combat boots or even the real thing? Combat boots are a fashion statement and a political statement-all rolled into one.

Craig Thornburrow is an acknowledged expert in his field. You can get more free advice on combat boots and Lowa boots at http://www.combatbootreview.info

In the late 1800s, Australia did not have a naval fleet of its own and relied upon the Royal Army for the security of the coastline. The British Naval officers stationed in Australia taught the locals the game of hockey and laid the foundations for a sport which Australian Hockey Teams have developed and mastered. Guiding the growth and popularity of the game, AWHA developed into a diverse and highly successful professional organization.

Records do not show where or when the first game of hockey was played in Australia; however private girls' schools were playing the game in 1900. It has been suggested that as South Australia was the first state to form an association, the first game took place there.

Clubs sprang up in Melbourne and Sydney and hockey rapidly became an established sport in Australia and millions of hockey fanatic were also based there.

The first all women Australian hockey teams was selected in 1914 to play England in Australia, with the inaugural overseas tour taking place in 1930. The Association became a foundation member of the International Federation of Women's Hockey in 1927. Guiding the growth and popularity of the game, AWHA developed into a diverse and highly successful professional organization.

The Dark Black and sleek F-117 silently enters the battelespace, a really interesting looking aircraft, and about the most deadly thing that your opponent could ever be worried of going up against. You can't see it, stealth technology makes it nearly invisible. The Radar signature is less than that of a large bird, it just does not show up.

Of course, the US is always upgrading all the time, which makes it fun to guess what they are working on next. The future will yield stealth UAV fighters, hypersonic aircraft, VTOL with unbelievably light materials, which are see through, with practically no sound, heat or radar signatures.

The next generation of stuff is unmatched in all the human history of mankind's achievements. It is an interesting time to be alive and watch it al unfold. Boy would I hate to be an enemy of the US, as whether the enemy hides or thinks they can, is irrelevant really, because the future technologies will make them as visible as day and the robotics of the future will eliminate all threats at the speed of light.

What about the new stuff in the US Aviation Arsenal now, like the F-35, which is a VTOL version of the JSF (Joint Strike Fighter). I believe Saudi Arabia is buying some, pretty smart and a really good move, of course they can afford to have the best aircraft in the world. Being an ally of the US is also a very smart move for this Century, as those who oppose the USA, well for them that is scary stuff - they should rethink that potentially deadly posturing and political rhetoric.

The JSF is the most advanced fighter aircraft in the world, the performance, the real performance is somewhat secret, but folks tell me that it blows the doors of the anything that the Russians have built (China is really missing out, along with India and other nations that buy the Russian Stuff). The JSF has some major advantages in combat and you cannot see it coming. The electronics and such make it very ominous.

It is a true peace keeper due to its accuracy, stealth and ability to hit pin-point targets, deliver precision guided bunker buster munitions capable of penetrating 400 ft below the ground thru solid concrete, I could not believe the footage I saw of the tests. Amazing, looked like magic, completely blew me away.

Indeed the new radar jamming equipment means no nation can contain the onslaught of American Technology, those who think they can build nuclear weapons to give to terrorist will be removed from this time period. I suppose that is a good thing for the world. Smaller nations like Iran, Venezuela, North Korea, really need to think very carefully their future moves, said the Founder of the Online Think Tank.
I've been carrying this knife for 20 years, and I've used the (same) toothpick the entire time. Recently it's gotten stuck. I figure something must be jammed down in there, but I can't get the toothpick OUT in order to clean it.

The White Plastic Toothpick is shaped like a "Railroad Spike", with a little 90degree bend on the end. Spray a little PAM vegetable Oil Spray on the opening then lift the toothpick out with the sharp point of a kitchen knife.......Simple....

Web Proxies Explained

A proxy is any software that supports the http proxy protocols. In it's simplest form a proxy is a relay for data between two computers. A proxy is a intermediate server that forwards information between to points. A proxy is like a middle man, between the host, the server that you are trying to download files off, and you sitting in front of your computer. A Proxy is a central machine on the network that allows other machines in that network to use a shared Internet connection.

Proxy

Proxy servers can be configured to be light or heavy. Proxy servers are a bit like Swiss Army Knives: Just as the capabilities of a Swiss Army Knife extend beyond simple cutting, today's proxy servers act as traditional proxies, but they also have a huge variety of security features. If you've ever accessed the Internet from an office environment, chances are your communications passed through a proxy. You may not already know what a proxy does. The only IP address an Internet host is aware of is the IP address of the proxy. There are further security advantages to using a proxy. A proxy will also typically have a cache of previous requests which can save bandwidth. A transparent proxy will intercept the client request, ensure that it is allowed, and then forward it on to the server. For every Internet application, there is a separate software proxy. The most common usage of a reverse proxy is to protect aweb server. When a user on the Internet requests data from a web serverprotected by a reverse proxy, the reverse proxy intercepts the request andensures that the data contained in the request is acceptable.

Proxies

Proxies are capable of keeping you totally anonymous from hackers and logs. Proxies normally have a rather short lifetime, typically 12 hours. Proxies help reduce outside security threats while still allowing internal users to access Internet services. These protocols have an additional advantage in that they allow multiple proxies to share their cache information. We've seen proxies written multi-threaded to gain speed when their big speed loss was in cryptographic activity. The task of such proxies, as a rule, is information caching and/or support of Internet access for several computers via single connection.

A proxy isn't necessary, but is sometimes convenient. A proxy is a gateway machine which sits between you and the rest of the network and relays your machine's http requests. In its simplest form, a proxy is a piece of software that "acts onbehalf of" a network client.
