All-around hunting knife?

What is the best all-around hunting knife style/configuration (i.e. serrated, non-serrated, gut hook, etc)? Fixed blade preferable. I will be skinning/quartering deer and hogs with it.
I realize that a knife can't be all things for all purposes, but what's a close enough multi-tasker?

I have a Cold Steel Master Hunter and find it to be as close to the perfect hunting as I have found. I do not like serrated edges nor gut hooks because they are too hard to sharpen, especially in the field. My preference is a non-serrated edge on my knife. While a gut hook can be quite helpful, do not get one on a hunting knife. They make one with changable blades that is not bad. I have one of them and carry it with me. It is okay because you don't have to sharpen the blade, when it gets dull, you just change it like you would with a box knife. I have hunted for many years (over 40) and have found that a well made, simple knife with good steel in the blade is the best knife. There are many good knife makers out there, I like Cold Steel, myself.

TOne of the most revered animals for those who hunt is the whitetail deer. These magnificent animals have been around for a long time and still capture the imagination of both the hunter and the artist alike. Most hunters are also conservationists at heart, and if they hunt deer, then they more than likely work to keep their population up with donations or other conservation efforts. Deer hunters also more than likely like to collect all things that resemble a deer, and this can prove to be profitable revenue for artists of many types. Finding deer items can be as easy as one two click if one takes the time to see what the internet has to offer in the way of deer collectibles.

The human race has always had a fascination with animals. We love them and most of us are no exception. A love of various kinds of animals from dogs to tigers can be found across the planet. One of the most intelligent animals on the planet is the dolphin. These unique animals have been regarded highly by humans for many centuries. The ancient Greeks believed that if dolphins were seen around a ship while they were leaving on a journey, then it was considered a good luck charm. This is just one of the many references in history to these unique mammals that interact with humans in a way that is unique only to them. However, some people have animal preferences that cannot be cuddled. In fact some may never be able to touch their favorite animal at all. Thanks in part to wildlife refugees and places such as Sea World people can come in contact with their favorite animals on a daily basis. For example, for those who love dolphins, they can actually feel these incredible animals at the dolphin tank at Sea World. Loving a dolphin may be hard to understand, but dolphins hold a mystique that is all their own. They are the protectors in the sea, and being in love with this creature can make one have a life long love affair with the dolphins.

So how you ask can a dolphin be a favorite animal? Well, many reasons really. For one, they are extremely playful in both the wild and in captivity. In a world that is chaotic and rarely full of play, dolphins add a charm to that only they can do. They are very friendly to humans even when they are encountered in the wild. If you have ever visited beeches where dolphins swim close to, then you may understand how a dolphin may be considered playful. They play off of the beach and can even come in contact with those who are swimming in the ocean.

Those who love dolphins usually keep them close in many ways even if they do not live on the beach. Unlike a dog or a cat that cuddles with you on a consistent basis, dolphins cannot do this. So, people fill their homes with many reminders that give one a sense of being with their dolphin friends. For example, one can find dolphin jewelry to adorn themselves with or they can also have a variety of ceramic sculptures of these magnificent creatures as decoration in their home.

Anyone can collect dolphin items. Because dolphins are so popular all over the world, the market is filled with wonderful items that can be collected. Everything you can imagine is available. For example, if you love sculpture, then you can find unique coffee tables that have multiple dolphins crafted in a playful gesture as their base. Many think that dolphin art is tacky, but if you look hard enough, you can find great pieces that do not look like dime store art.

i have a john deer pushmower and it wont start at all, I think its something to do with the oil tank?

I was mowing my lawn and my lawn mower wasnt giving much torch so i thought it needed oil and it did. I put alot of oil in it and then i relized it was to much because my mower wouldnt start. So I sucked some out with a turkey baster and it started and worked fine for a little while but it died out and now it just wont start. Everything is fine with it, theres gas, the blades fine but it just wont start, any ideas?

You may have gotten oil into the air filter air box. The crankcase vent goes there and if you put too much oil in the crankcase it will go out the vent. If your air filter has oil on it change it. Clean up any oil from that area and make sure that the oil level in the crankcase is not over the full mark on the dipstick.

All women experience menstrual disorder sometimes during their child bearing years, before menopause. While Western medication has never viewed that irregular menstruation is a problem of women's reproductive systems, traditional Chinese medicine looks at this problem seriously, if untreated, it will disharmonize the women ecosystem, leading to nervous tension and other health problems, including infertility. Kidney yang deficiency is defined as a condition of the inability of kidney in expelling extra fluid in the body in urinary secretion through bladder, causing fluid retention. Chinese herbs used to treat kidney yang deficiency include:

1. Lu rong

Lu rong is also known as deer antler, deer antler velvet, it is a great herb that helps to reduce the blockage of the meridian liver and kidney. Since yang qi deficiency is also caused blood deficiency, improving the body yang by strengthening the liver's function in blood formation and kidney's function in fluid distribution, it reduces the yang deficiency in the body.

2. Du Zhong

It is also known ecommia bark, it is one the most used herb to enhance the function of meridian kidney-liver by promoting the qi and blood formation. Since the liver is a organ in charge of blood storing and blood formation and kidney is in charge of fluid regulation, it increases blood flow to the entire body and reduces fluid accumulated in the body, thus enhancing yang.

3. Ba Ji Tian

Ba ji tian is also known as Chinese morinda root, sweet and warm in nature. It is also one the herbs used to strengthen the liver and kidney qi and blood yang by enhancing the liver in blood formation and kidney in urinary secretion, thus reducing the yang deficiency causes of abdominal distention, including cramps and pain during menstrual cycle.

4. Rou Chong Rong

Rou Chong Rong used in traditional Chinese medicine for reducing the blockage of kidney-large intestine meridian, thereby increasing the kidney function in increasing blood circulation to warm the uterus, assisting urinary secretion and digestive system in moving waste, resulting in lessening the fluid retention and dysmenorrhea.

5. Bu Gu Zhi

Bu gu zhi is also known as psoralea fruit and used in traditional Chinese medicine in treating blockage of meridian kidney-Spleen. It tonifies the yang qi by increasing the kidney function in assisting the function of lung qi and the function of spleen in qi distribution.

The word cutlery originates from the cutlers who used to make iron knives. Originally from the French, who use the Latin 'Cultellus' for knife, to coin the word, this is a Middle English word for our language and can show us how cutlery does date back quite far into the past.

Cutlery has been around for many centuries. The first noted time of use around a table was around the mid 17th century when forks were the first type of cutlery to be used formally. Even though this was the first noted timed of use cutlery has been around for much, much longer. Before this though, it was not seen as as necessary, and not generally used around formal table settings.

Cutlery was actually invented 300,000 years ago by our forebearers. Early cutlery was made from flint and stone and was used for skinning and cutting through animals to make the meat easier to handle. During the iron age many types of cutlery were used and invented, because of the new technology. Cutlery then advanced further and began being made from stainless steel in the 19th century. This was to set Sheffield on the map from 1890, as the major steel producing area in England. Sheffield cutlery is prized all over the world for its quality. By now it was widely used and commonplace in every home.

Knives and variations of knives have been around for a very long time. As mentioned earlier forks are a relatively modern invention. They were brought over from Italy during the 17th century by an English traveller who saw them. At first he was ridiculed and was given the insult "furcifer" or "fork bearer". However after a while though people saw the benefits of forks, and by the mid 19th century they were being produced in masses during the industrial revolution. Forks have been used on the continent since the 11th century, and so actually came relatively late to Britain. Since their arrival though, they have obviously become very widely used, and it did not take long for us to adapt to the cutlery using way of life.

Now onto spoons. Spoons have been around since early civilization. The ancient word for spoon from the Greek and Roman was cochlea, meaning spiral shaped snail shell. In northern Europe though spoons were tended to be carved out of wood. Once again though England did not take much notice of the spoon until the mid 19th century: this was because drinking soup from bowls was thought to be very rude by then.

Now cutlery is mass produced and made in many styles. It is seen as something that is necessary to use, and there have been many different types made. Traditional metal cutlery is still around, but is sometimes printed with a pattern, and some sets have plastic or glass handles to make them different. Basically, they are now party of day to day life, and destined to stay that way.

If you are an occasional hunter, did you ever try hunting in group? Hunting with a companion is of great way and it helps you also in your trail and stalking the deer. But it is difficult to find a hunting companion who will be a help rather than a hindrance. This is because unless they work, as a team, the chances of either of them sighting a deer depends more on luck than it does on hunting skill. When hunting with a group that is large enough to cover all probable crossing places, it is not so important for the trailer to stick to his trailing. It is not so important for the trailer to stick to his trailing. You can apply a different type of hunting when in group.

There are several ways in which two hunters may work as a team in deer hunting. They may go into the woods and travel a short distance apart in an effort to stalk feeding or resting deer. If they start a deer, they may separate, with one man on the trail and the other off to one side so that he may sight the deer if it should turn in an effort to evade the trailer. They should keep in touch with each other so that as soon as the deer's course may be predicted, one of the men can circle and cut in ahead of the deer and intercept it on its expected course. This is where most hunting teams become individual hunters. If the deer fails to show up at the expected place at the expected time, the watcher is apt to start hunting aimlessly instead of trying to intercept the deer at another point or rejoin his companion in order to determine the deer's new course. If two hunters are able to contact each other occasionally, they may be able to alternate on the trail and may hunt all day without too much fatigue to either.

A large part of my hunting has been done in a farming country where deer were in patches of woods which varied in size from several thousand acres down to practically nothing. When hunting the smaller of these wood patches, one man would start and trail the deer, and his companion would watch the place where the animal could be expected to leave the woods. In this type of hunting, the man who jumps and trails the deer should not try to stalk or to intercept the animal, but should confine his attention to the trail unless he should overtake the deer and have a good chance for a shot.

When the trailer hunts as he would if alone, he is apt to cause the deer to change its course enough so that his companion will have no chance to prevent the animal from reaching another piece of woods and prolonging the hunt. Of course, when hunting with a group that is large enough to cover all probable crossing places, it is not so important for the trailer to stick to his trailing. In such cases it is probably better to organize a "drive" which is a different type of hunting and requires different tactics.

While hunting with one or two companions, it is desirable for them to have a plan and for each man to play his part in that plan until the deer's actions prove it to be useless and the hunters have a chance to meet and devise another plan. Nothing discourages a trailer more than to follow a trail to the place where a man has been stationed only to find that he is gone.

Two hunters can work as a team in deer hunting. Even though they go separate ways they should keep in touch with each other so that as soon as the deer's course may be predicted, one of the men can circle and cut in ahead of the deer and intercept it on its expected course. Therefore as a whole you can sum up that there is a need to have good combination between the two of the hunters.

im going rabbit hunting tomorrow and i was wondering if anyone knew how to skin the rabbit so i can make and..?

keep the pelt...like as to keep it "neat and in one piece" also how to tan one side as to keep it from producing a foul smell when i hang it on the wall and also if i leave the side with the hair on it...with hair on it and dont do anything to it, will it smell foul also? thanks for your help

First I would field dress it like any other animal, then you have to very carefully work your finger between the skin and the carcass, the only cutting you should have to do is the cartilage for the ears. then take and stretch the skin tight on a peice of plywood securing it with nails with the fur side against the plywood. then salt generously. Many outdoor shops sell the proper chemicals that you need to tan the hide.

---
The Muffin Man

Do you know the muffin man?
The muffin man?
Yes, yes!
The muffin man.
Who lives on Drury Lane.
We've all heard of the muffin man,
With nothing but murder
On his brain.
Have you seen the muffin man?
His bloodstained apron tells all.
If you'd like a blood muffin
Simply give him a call.
Hoping for a free sample,
The children run to his shop.
Not knowing what they're getting into,
All they get is their head chopped.
He bakes them up with great delight,
He likes the littlest best.
They seem to have that extra flavor
Much better than the rest.
The chimney pours out smoke
And the scent of young burning flesh.
He pulls out the finished muffins
And bites them while they're fresh.
Don't think it's just the little ones,
He takes all shapes and sizes.
Luring people to the oven,
And straight to their demises.
Do you know the muffin man?
Well, you're about to.
Why you ask? Well, because,
He's standing right behind you.

Hush the Baby Does Cry

In a tree, oh high above
A baby swathed in lace
Rocks and rolls as branch does swing
All but fair of face.

The baby grace that Tuesday brings
nestled in the tree leaves
Hiding from the baby blue
As mother brings the days eves

The Horn that blows amongst the hay
And baby full of woe
Watches boy as sleep does come
On wednesday's day to go

And far to go does marching duke
As Thursday presses on
And baby sits surcumbed my green
As blue boy blows his horn.

The mother sits and weeps for child
As marches gather round
Fridays day for loving and giving
Here, cannot be found.

The baby now on Saturday dreads
as mother is no more
Has to now work hard for a living
And lay nought upon on floor

As Sunday comes and draws weeks close
The branches then do snap
And leave poor baby falling
As its wrapped in swaddling wrap

And as the Sabbath child does fall
Little boy blue blows his horn
The duke of york laughs at the infant
None of who will mourn
