Perhaps you have seen headlines, which shocked you about police corruption? In the news it seems to be happening more and more these days, but in reality it is quite common. We are suppose to respect authority, and this undermines our security. It is very damaging to our psyche to see such things in the news.

Why does this corruption surprise anyone?

It is utterly naive to believe that less than 1/3 of all police officers are on the take, regardless of which area of law enforcement division they work in. Criminals are attracted to law enforcement jobs, perhaps because you tried to beat them up or steal their shovel in the sand box in third grade? This explanation sounds too simplistic, but if you check your psychology text book you will see it is one of the most common.

With regards to our police, whatever the reason, it should not surprise anyone? Why is this news and why is everyone making such a big deal out of just obvious things, every time they read about it in the newspaper or see it on TV.

Some say the slight increase has to do with reality, not just better news coverage. Why? Well, because local police departments have to hire more questionable characters because the job market is tight for security, military, border patrol, etc. This might indeed, have something to do with it, of course that does not justify any police corruption, it just explains why it is on the rise.

If you have a problem with this line of reasoning and you don't believe me, just ask any internal affairs officer, see for yourself. Absolute power - corrupts. That is a known fact.

Like many other organizations, USMC has some set of rules that you have to follow, the only difference perhaps would be there will be no excuses in the Marines boot camp. Whether you're going to Parris Island, South Carolina or in San Diego California, keep in mind that you won't be having a vacation at all, I doubt that you even have the time to go sight-seeing. It surely will be the biggest challenge of your life. Learning the basic rules in the Marines Bootcamp may save your life in the future. Do a lot of reading and research, if you can join in some forums then that's better.

Only bring the things that are allowed in the boot camp so you won't end up throwing away most of your stuff. What are the things that are not allowed inside the Marines Boot camp?

Do not bother bringing your gadgets and it does not matter if you think you can't survive without them. You'll be surprised that even the most basic ones are not allowed. Leave your electronic items at home because they will just be shipped back. The main concept of the training is survival which means you only need the most basic of things.

Did you know that even over-the-counter medication is not allowed in basic training? If you bring some with you, it will just be taken away. All prescription medication needs to be re-evaluated by a military doctor and if necessary, you will be re-issued the medication by the military pharmacy. This includes birth control pills for women but they are usually encouraged to continue taking them during the training. Contact lenses are also not allowed during the training, you have to wear your own prescription glasses until you are given a new pair in the Marines boot camp.

For more information and tips on how to perpare for boot camp, feel free to stop by http://www.makingmarines.com

The Al Mar Sere Operator borrows its design from the popular Sere 2000 folding knife and makes for one of the toughest production fixed blades on the market today. I recently got a good deal on this knife and here are my honest opinions:

What I like about the knife:

1. At 5 inches long, the S30V blade comes extremely sharp right out of the box. S30V stainless steel is one of the most treasured blade steels in the knife world today, and for good reason. The Sere Operator has no problem holding its edge even after continuous use.

2. With so many knives being made overseas nowadays, it's becoming difficult to find any made in the U.S.A. Al Mar Sere Operators are made in the United States, and the quality reflects that.

3. Your Sere Operator will be made with a full tang that extends to the end of the handle. This feature gives the knife a lot of added strength and is much less likely to break when you need it most.

4. The molded sheath is perfect for tactical and emergency operations because it will not be affected by rain, snow or sand. The belt attachment is adjustable to allow for multiple carrying options.

5. Al Mar also offers the Sere Operator with a saw on the back of the blade, which gives you added functionality for wilderness survival or emergency situations.

What I didn't like:

I would like to see this knife available with partial or full serrations, but other than that I have nothing bad to say about the Sere Operator.

Overall:

Al Mar took a proven design and turned it into one of the most trustworthy fixed blades out there. I highly recommend this knife as a camping, military or emergency tool that will last a lifetime.

You can get an Al Mar Sere Operator for $140 or less at http://www.KnifeSell.com

Thanks for reading,

The gun and the dog are crucial components of every hunting adventure, not only for quail hunting, that is why experienced hunters recommend that choosing a gun and a dog should be done in a very attentive matter because the overall results greatly depend on them. We shall start our article reviewing two of the most recommended firearms for a quail hunting trip.

The first model we will present is the Remington Model 870 SPS-T Camo 20 Gauge, which has the following specifications and features:

o Gauge: 12

o Chamber: 3 1/2"

o Mag. Capacity: 3-4

o Barrel Length: 23"

o Choke: Rem Choke

o Overall Length: 44 1/2"

o Avg. Wt.: 7 1/4

o Receiver milled from a solid billet of steel for strength and durability

o Twin action bars ensure smooth, reliable non-binding action

o Legendary point ability and accuracy

o 203, Rem Choke barrel offered in 12-, 16- and 20-gauge

o Equipped with TruGlo light-gathering, fiber-optic rifle sights

This lightweight 20 gauge pump action is capable of handling 3-inch magnum shot shells and has a 20-inch vent rib, Rem Choke barrel with Full choke included. Fit with the new R3 Recoil Pad, designed by Sims Vibration Laboratory, the felt recoil of this lightweight Model 870 is significantly reduced. The camouflaged barrel is equipped with TruGlo light-gathering, fiber-optic rifle sights for ease of target alignment. Completing the package is a camouflaged, Cordura nylon sling, swivels and studs.

The second and last model we will be reviewing is the Browning Citori Superlight Feather , which comes with the following specifications and features:

o Gauge: 12 2 3/4

o Barrel Length: 43"

o Length Of Pull: 14 1/4"

o Drop At Comb: 1 5/8"

o Drop At Heel: 2 3/8"

o Nom. Weight: 6 lbs. 4 oz.

o Receiver: Lightweight alloy with steel breech face and hinge pin, High-relief engraving

o Barrel: 263 ventilated rib

o Action: Single selective trigger, Hammer ejectors, Top-tang barrel selector/safety

o Stock: Gloss finish walnut, English-style straight grip stock, Schnabel forearm

o Three Invector-Plus choke tubes

The English style, straight grip stock and Schnabel forearm balance perfectly in your hands. The Superlight's alloy receiver, with dovetail steel breech face and steel hinge pin, provide exceptional strength while remaining lightweight. Models come with three standard Invector Plus choke tubes. A recoil pad is featured on 12 gauge models only.

Moving on to the second part of our article, we will present the most suitable dogs for such a hunting adventure. The first dog we will review is the American Water Spaniel:

The American Water Spaniel has a crisp-textured, tightly cured coat lined with a protective undercoat. The coat colors can be liver/chocolate and sometimes the dogs can have a small white spot on their chest. The dog has a medium-length muzzle that is smooth and square. The American Water Spaniel has either a black or dark nose and an eye color that should match the coat color ( shades of brown/hazel ).

The second and final dog we present is the Beagle which is a sturdy and squarely-built hardy small hound that has an easy-care and sleek short coat. The coat can come in any hound color, for example: tri-color, black & tan, red & white, orange & white or lemon & white. The Beagle is similar in appearance with the English Foxhound. The dog's muzzle is square and straight and the skull is broad and a bit rounded. The Beagle hound has wide ears that are pendant. The dog's brown/hazel eyes have a unique pleading expression.

We hope that our small guide of guns and dogs suitable for a quail hunting adventure will come in hand if you plan on pursuing this special sport. We wish you all the best and a rewarding quail hunting experience that you will remember many years from now.

Razvan Marian Jr. currently owns http://www.quailhuntinginfo.com where hunters can find basic quail hunting information as well as more advanced quail hunting tips.

If you ask a guy why they deer hunt chances are you will get different answers. Some will answer that they hunt for sport and others will say they hunt for the food. You may get other answers but those are the two main answers that is going to be discussed. Some hunters hunt with a bow and others hunt with a shotgun. Either way the results are the same, meat on the table.

When deer hunting for sport a hunters goal is to try to get the buck with the biggest rack. Most that hunt for sport will tell you that the pure enjoyment of being in the outdoors is a thrill. Even if the goal is hunting for sport, those hunters bring home a lot of meat for their family table. When a hunter gets a nice looking rack a lot of times the hunter will take it to a taxidermist and get it mounted for his home wall. Some hunters even have their own trophy room.

Hunting for the reason of providing food for the family table may seem caveman but a lot of hunters do it. Hunting is not just for men. A lot of women do it too. Whomever is providing the meat for the table can find the taste of venison as a delicious meal. Venison is much like beef, except with a more wild taste. There is thousands of venison recipes. One big difference between beef and venison is that venison is not corn fed and has much less fat on it.

So regardless of why a hunter hunts the result is good meat on the table, a cheaper way to fill the freezer, and a less populated forest. Hunting seasons differ depending where you live. It's worth checking into and seeing what you need to do to be the next big deer hunter.

How to remove faded flowers from a Canna flower spike ...?

Hi - can anybody please advise me how to remove a Canna flower spike once the blooms have faded. Do I cut it right back to ground level or do I cut it elsewhere on the spike. Have tried to do a search but have found conflicting advice - some sites say that the spike should be cut back to ground level others advise to only cut back to the next set of buds contained within a sheath - not sure about this one - specific advise would be needed as this is the first Canna I have ever grown.

Many thanks!!

http://www.plantanswers.com/parsons/CANNA.htm

the stem on the left there shows how many flower could show up there.... removing each batch as it 'finishes' will keep the plant looking 'well dressed'... but like the site says, it's not a big deal if you don't.....

this site...

"Many annuals (and quite a few perennials) must be deadheaded to keep them blooming longer. Notorious are Antirrhinum (Snapdragon), Canna (only remove the spend flowers and be wary of cutting off future flowers lower on the same stalk),

I don't bother mine until the whole stem has finished flowering, then I cut it back as close to the ground as I can.....

A survival knife normally has a smooth blade. It can be used to prepare foods and cut tree limbs. It can also have a hooked blade for slicing ropes and opening cans. The luxurious type has a matte finish to avoid glares.

A survival knife is a tool aid in outdoors, where the world is vast and danger abounds. Use it wisely to protect you from wild animals or strangers meaning harm to your life.

Hikers, hunters, and outdoors sports enthusiasts use their survival knife as utility knife.

A survival knife must have a strong fixed blade to maximize its efficiency.

The typical survival knife has a handle that is normally ergonomic to fingers for a better grip. The tip of the handle has a floating compass a supplementary emergency device. All other additional tools are kept inside the handle.

Several survival specialists recommend buying a durable compact survival kit and hunting knife instead of rather than a multi-purpose one. Other survival specialists say that a survival knife with a well-stocked handle is easier to carry as compared to having a knife and emergency kit separately.

Many retailers offer a huge variety of knives with different features, sizes, and shapes. The range of survival knives start from folding multi-tools, to huge blades with special steel.

A knife tang connects the blade to the handle. The two slabs of material are then connected to either side of the metal. Narrow tang types reduce the blade size as it goes in the handle. The handle will then become attached onto the narrower area of the knife. Narrow tang knives sometimes have a pommel connected to the handle.

Listed below are some types of survival knives:

-	magnifying glass

-	compass with spirit level

-	distress whistle

- and the Swiss champ knife

The average price of this survival knife is 66.95 US dollars.

12 ¾ Inch Survival Knife with Sheath - It has a stainless steel blade. The end of the handle is unscrewed to reveal a handy storage compartment of all the supplemental tools attached. The measurement of this survival knife is 12 ¾ inches. The blade is 7 3/8 inch.
