in 93 when the first NYTC was bombed, clinton hunted down the terrorists, and they serving life sentences.....after 911 bush trampled the US constitution, ignored bin laden, put together a laughable war plan using too few troops in crap humvees honestly believing the US could plant a US flag in Baghdad without resistance.........$500 billion dollars and 3500 dead US troops later, the reputation of the US is a joke, and iraq is now a training ground for the Al Quaida, which is documented by many experts as being as strong now as it was on 911, and getting stronger.........and the bushies claim w is keeping us safe because we havent had another 911...

it took terrorists 7 years, 1993-2000, to launch a second attack on the NYTC.......who will the bushies blame when the US is hit again?

I only hope we can get rid of W as soon as possible.

Counteroffensive actions offer the fencer a variety of options against the opponent's preparation or actual attack. To be able to use these effectively, you must understand where they fit in the tactical opportunities offered by an opponent's intent to hit you. Czajkowski calls these actions offensive-defensive. I prefer counteroffensive because the action is specifically designed to deny the offense a hit.

Every attack consists of a situation, preparation, and final attacking action. The situation is the combination of the phrase, the distance, and timing that creates the opportunity for attack. Preparation may be mental, the conception by the opponent that an attack is possible, or it may be physical, the footwork, engagement, feints, attacks on the blade, or takings of the blade that advance the final attack. And the final attacking action is the delivery of the final action with intent to score. Into these phases counteroffensive action can be delivered:

The point in line (in the situation). A point in line denies the opponent the opportunity to attack without removing the point, making the preparation of the attack to some degree predictable. In turn it provides the fencer with the point in line the opportunity to debrobe the attempted attack.

Attack on preparation (in preparation). The attack on preparation is executed on the opponent's attempt to close the distance without effective blade action or when the attack is incorrectly executed (for example, on the step forward of an advance lunge if the arm is not extending, or the attack by derobement when the opponent attempts to take or beat the blade). In some cases it is simply a question of timing. You instinctively attack into the opponent's action because you somehow know that it is coming, even though the opponent has not yet started to move. I should note that Tau considers the derobement a separate type of counter-attack, but I believe it is a technique that can be used in both attacks on preparation and in stop hits.

Stop hit (in preparation or final attacking action). The stop hit in foil or sabre is a counterattack that lands before the initiation of the final action with the intent of stopping the attack. However, as a practical matter, a stop hit against an attack that is short or that does not land because of poor aim, is effective because it results in one light. In sabre, the situation is even more complex because the stop hit delivered on the advanced target with a step back may arrive early enough to time out the final attack. In epee it only must land more than 1/25 of a second ahead of the attack.

Intercepting stop hit (in preparation or final attacking action). The intercepting stop hit closes a line through which the opponent's action must pass, effectively serving as a parry and riposte and preventing its completion. For example, an intercepting stop hit can be executed into 8th against a disengage from 6th to 4th in foil or epee.

Time hit, also called a stop hit with opposition (in final attacking action). This action differs from the intercepting stop hit in that it is delivered closing the final line of the attack so that the attack does not arrive. Like the intercepting stop hit it combines the features of parry and riposte. This requires a neat sense of timing and a high degree of confidence that you have identified the final line.

Although most counteroffensive action belongs to the opponent of the fencer who is attacking, there is one counteroffensive action open to the original attacker. The remise or redoublement is effectively a stop hit against the riposte, and is effective if the defender executes the riposte incorrectly or inaccurately.

This range of actions gives you a variety of ways to interrupt the opponent's attack. They all require judgment, steady nerves, excellent timing, and a high degree of accuracy. When properly executed they are a thing of beauty, and mark superior technical and tactical skill.

What was the dimensions of the original Bowie Knife?

Bowie Knife Jim Bowie

Bowie Knife Jim Bowie Sandbar Fight Blacksmith Jesse Clift Black Smith Snowden Jim Bowie
Bowie knife by Jim Bowie

Jim Bowie and the Bowie knife have almost become synonymous. In the early 1800's it was common place for men to carry a knife as a sidearm but it wasn't until 1830 that the famous Bowie knife was made that forever carved a niche in history for Jim Bowie

The actual making of the Bowie knife was a progression of knife designs. The first knife was claimed to be designed by his brother Rezin in Avoyelles Parish in Louisiana and made by a blacksmith Jesse Clift in order to protect his younger brother from some of the company he was keeping

This knife was referred to by many as Bowie's butcher knife that was used at the Sandbar Fight. Another rendition of the story according to Jim's older brother John was that a blacksmith named Snowden, made a hunting knife for Jim which was used during the duel. Either way the prototype and the legend had begun

In 1827 the famous duel occurred across from Natchez, Mississippi on a Mississippi River sandbar. As a second in the duel, Bowie found himself in the middle of the ruckus armed with a butcher knife. In the events that followed Bowie found himself badly beaten, shot and stabbed but before him laid one man cut to ribbons and another one disemboweled

In 1830 in Texas, Jim Bowie armed with the famous Bowie knife made by James Black, was attacked by three men hired to kill him. The stories flourished as Bowie wielded the heavy knife against his attackers. In the end, one man was almost beheaded, another was disemboweled and the third had his skull split open

The original Bowie knife was two inches wide and a quarter inch thick with the blade being about 12 inches long. The back of the blade had a soft metal inlaid to catch the opponent's blade during a scrape. Razor sharp was the top edge of the clip point. In order to protect the hand a brass quillon was in place

At the Alamo, Jim Bowie had his trusted Bowie knife. As the Alamo was overrun by the Mexican army, Jim Bowie laid on a cot in the Low Barracks with his Bowie knife and pistol at hand. Tales exist that before he was killed that he took out nine of the oncoming soldiers

In the end, the bowie knife lost the capital B but its' fame has continued to grow. The original Bowie knife was never found

If you drop a lightsaber blade side down, would it cut through the world? What substance can't it cut?

It was my understanding that the only substance not able to be cut by a lightsaber is another lightsaber. Thus, if you drop one with the blade side down, what would stop it from cutting a hole straight through the planet you are standing on?

There actually are materials that a lightsaber cannot cut through, frik for example.
And you don't have to hold a lightsaber for it to stay on, infact it was up to the person who built it, in many cases the builder included pressure sensors that automatically shut off the blade had the user been disarmed (to prevent collateral damage and friendly fire if the wielder lost his weapon.) but that wasn't always the case.
Also, you have to consider that even though a lightsaber could cut through many things, it wasn't always easy. An example of this is episode 1, when Qui Gon was trying to cut through the blast door's lock. He had to slowly cut through because the metal had a high melting temp.
Lastly, while the lightsaber's blade was very powerful, the handles were often much more fragile. So if the lightsaber encountered a thicker metal, even if it was melting through, the molten metal would likely destroy the handle, stopping the blade.

While you're sitting around waiting to start hunting, don't sit around waiting to get out and buy yourself that hunting knife you deserve. You spend so much time building up hunting season; getting your gear together, applying for your hunting license, and even the long cold hours of hunting itself. Don't forget to take arguably one of the most important hunting pieces with you, the perfect knife for you. Hunting knives are used for preparing the game for food; skinning the animal, and cutting up the meat. Hunting knives are designed for skinning rather than stabbing, therefore they only have one sharpened edge. Most hunting knives have a slightly curved blade, as well.

Hunting knives are also designed to be used for many uses in the wild. Finding the perfect knife for you is the key! The first think you need to decide is if you want a fixed blade or a folding knife. Either knife will do the second half of the job, after you complete the first. Also, both knifes have pros and cons. If you will be carrying a lot of gear, a folding knife is probably best for you as it will be compact and light. Whereas a fixed blade is larger, which tends to make it a safer knife.

Whichever you decide, there will be many brands from you to choose from; but don't be the last to the punch. After doing all of the research to find the best knife for you, you don't want to find that it has been sold out. Whether it is your favorite manufacturer or blade style, there is a perfect hunting knife for you!
