How to clean and sharpen the old pocket knife?

I am my father's old pocket knife. This knife is 30 + years old. I am already in it and the steel wooled I'm soaking it vinegar. I have no idea what else to do, but perhaps put the WB40? I'm going to be used outdoors / fishing stuff. One help?

I have the whole box and "what used to clean stuff '... It contains the toothpicks and Q-tips and such. oil you use your pistol / rifle, like Rem oil or its equivalent is OK knife. Get all the places where the rust and dirt may cause problems. Lansky makes a great sharpening system, which is set on a knife-edge blade.

Gamma Knife Surgery is not really surgery, because you know it. There is no knife, no scalpel. Why did they name it Gamma Knife Surgery? Hit me. But I can tell you that it is a powerful tool. Take it from someone who has had their head opened more than once. Gamma Knife patients usually waltz from the hospital the same day and yet her hair. I walked, or rather, walked carefully to my car one week after each of my craniotomies. And my head was shaved, which is meet me in the diva. So it's worth trying to see if a brain tumor or disease of the brain meets the gamma knife surgery.

It is important to to note that the Gamma Knife (GK) and the Cyber Knife is not the same thing. GK was set up specifically designed and constructed to treat brain tumors and disorders. Cyber knife was not. There are other differences, but this focuses on the benefits of gamma knife and what to look for a good GK treatment.

Gamma Knife is a life-saving equipment care for patients previously considered untreatable

Many brain tumors and disorders, which do not meet the Gamma Knife procedure in 1999 or 2000, when I had surgery. But many of them now. Many people who have been diagnosed with inoperable brain tumor, or unusable, neurological disorders can be treated by GK. Patients who could not make the risk of craniotomy now this option.

How it works?

Basically, GK is a non-invasive, outpatient procedure that focuses on highly accurate cobalt radiation beams in the target area. Patients used Collimator, a sort of helmet, which has little holes. Beams of radiation focused through the holes in the collimator.

Individual beams are too weak to damage healthy tissue, but very effective when they simultaneously combine in one center. In particular, the GK is a highly effective tool for the treatment of Trigeminal Neuralgia, nerve disorder, which causes severe facial pain.

GK treatment is to stop the growth of tumors or lesions, which means that the effect occurs over weeks or months. It is usually immediately to treat trigeminal neuralgia. Your doctor will keep in touch with you to help assess progress, which may include monitoring MRI, CT or angiography images to assess the effectiveness.

What GK used to treat?

Whether or not the candidate GK treatment even a physician or group of doctors. But Gamma Knife treatment has been successfully used for the following:

No Trigeminal Neuralgia (TN)

o Benign brain tumor - meningiomas, pituitary tumors, acoustic neuromas

o Intracranial Tumors

No arteriovenous malformation (AVM)

o Metastatic brain disease

No investigation is made of Parkinson's, epilepsy, chronic pain and glaucoma

Benefits of Gamma Knife Surgery

Since there is no incision, risk of infection, bleeding and side effects of anesthesia are minimal. Most patients receive only local anesthesia and a mild sedative. Does not mean anesthesia in patients up and around faster. Here are other advantages:

No surrounding tissue will be spared from unnecessary radiation.

o Gamma Knife surgery is often more cost-effective, because the recovery time is reduced. Most patients leave the from the hospital the same day as treatment. (Medicare and most insurance companies cover the treatment.)

No patients experience little, if any, discomfort during and after minimally invasive procedure.

What to look for Gamma Knife Treatment Center

Not every city is a Gamma Knife Center. So it could mean traveling out of town or state. So the first step is to find out what insurance pay, and if you want to make a complaint center.

Doctor often do not know what centers are good results and experience and can help insurance approval process. If you have problems with insurance approval, do not hesitate to ask for help from a doctor or center, where you want to have the treatment.

Here are some other things you'll want to find the treatment center:

No physician experience. Do you know that the surgeon perform gamma knife is not out of his maiden voyage.

No team of experts and a comprehensive treatment plan. Agency to develop a good management plan for the patient depends on many factors and may have heard about neurosurgeons, oncologists, interventional radiologists to name a few.

o Find a center, which is a newer technology, the fourth generation or higher. GK technique has been around for some time, so it is hardly the prototype state.

No salon Gamma Knife as the host site. Peace of mind is when you have only one center, which sets the standard for Gamma Knife surgery. The manufacturer shall appoint some of the centers' host status ", ie they are models that they want other centers to follow.

o is a complementary technique available on site. Is the PET scanner, CT scanner, Digital angiography 3DRA, trilogy? A full suite of neurosurgery and oncology technology makes it the place dedicated to the treatment of neurological and oncology care. It means that there are more resources in technology and medical experience.

No comprehensive treatment plans. You are looking for center, which offers as much as possible treatment options in one place. Going from one city to another is difficult and stressful. Except that it is unnecessary today. - For example, when seeking treatment for trigeminal neuralgia, you would want to know if they offer the Gamma Knife, medication options, glycerol, and insulin microvascular depression.

Twenty years ago, the patient should have been divine intervention to leave the hospital on the same day he had brain surgery. Gamma Knife makes this possible more than 30,000 patients each year. So if you are a candidate for Gamma Knife, you may be a form of takes to assemble thanksgiving feast, but you can certainly enjoy dinner at home. Although the desert, if you want.

I am a writer and a brain tumor survivor. Always fascinated with the brain, my obsession amplified after going through major league epic brain surgery twice, followed a year later by a cranial reconstruction. Afterwards, I pursued projects that involved neurosurgery and hospitals to sate my appetite for medical knowledge. I could talk the talk, might as well use it to make money to offset the medical bills. My fascination is still piqued. The brain and its maladies are ever mysterious but more easily treatable than they used to be.

I have an old sabre/sword in its sheath - it's shabby - and would like to know if it's possible to restore.

I have no idea of its age, but suspect it could be ex forces! The bit that protects the hand has a slight chip and the sheath looks worn at the tip. The casing is leather I think and the blade has some form of pattern/engraving the whole length, but fading.

What does this blade look like? The "bit that protects your hand," is it short and straight, does it curve, does it go back and cover your hand? The blade itself, is it long and straight? Slightly curved? One sided or two? What is the design on the blade? Geometric, floral? Does it look hand done, or more precise, neat, like a machine or fine jeweler did it? Details, my dear, I need details! I don't trust most antique dealers. They'll tell you it's a piece of crap and offer to "take it off your hands." Then turn around and make a wicked profit. Also, any markings? Names, or numbers, perhaps? And, for restoration purposes, is anything loose? Anything wiggle or tap together when it's moved?

If you do decide to ask a dealer, take a good picture, overall and close up of details, and take THAT to them, or better yet, find a dealer online and e-mail them the picture. That way, they'll not have a reason to screw you over on it.

There are hundreds of fillet knives on the market today. Choosing the right knife for you and your type of surf fishing can be a daunting task. A good fillet knife is as important as a good rod and reel, when it comes to fishing. Many fishing enthusiasts have caught a big fish or big numbers of fish only to cobble them up with a poorly chosen fillet knife.

Although I am not an expert on cutlery, I do know a good fillet knife when it cuts me, and many have. Since we do a lot of gourmet cooking at home I do insist on good cutlery with a sharp edge and well balanced handle. The same is true for any good fillet knife.

When choosing a good knife you have to start with good steel. High carbon stainless steel is a good choice for the surf fishing enthusiast since it resist rusting and holds a good edge. I learned many years ago not to keep my surf fishing fillet knife in a leather sheath. They rust. So now I keep my fillet knife in an open tray in the top of my tackle box. This also helps to protect the cutting edge and the fisherman's fingers.

Easy fish filleting requires an extremely sharp knife, especially if you want to skin the fish as well. The high carbon stainless steel when properly sharpened and maintained will do just that. The blade of your knife should not be so thick that it does not flex. You need to be able to flex the blade to a flattened position so that your hand is above the cutting board.

The handle of the knife should be longer than your hand when holding the knife. This allows for a sturdy grip on the knife for safety. The knife should feel balanced in your hand when holding the knife horizontally. It should not feel like a tool, but an extension of your hand. Choose a knife with a comfortable grip; hopefully you will spend a lot of time with that knife in your hand.

Like any other tool in your tackle box, take care of it and treat it with respect. I keep a diamond impregnated honing steel and a ceramic hone in my tackle box. I will sharpen my knife several times while filleting fish. I always sharpen my knife before and after a filleting fest. I also lubricate it occasionally with mineral oil.

For more tips and information on surf fishing and the Outer Banks of NC visit our website at http://www.saltysport.com
About Us
Dan Bryant was born and raised near the coast of North Carolina. Until he went off to college he never lived more than 45 minutes from the beach. He fished and hunted the coastal areas of North Carolina as a youngster, spending his free time hunting for rabbit, squirrel, deer, duck and goose and fishing the coastal rivers, estuaries and beaches.
In the early 1970s Dan moved the mountains of Western North Carolina. At the same time he and his wife became enamored of the Outer Banks of North Carolina. They began making several trips a year to the Outer Banks to enjoy the surf, sand, the seafood, the fishing and the water fowl hunting.
For almost forty years Dan has fished the Outer Banks of North Carolina from Nags Head to Ocracoke Inlet. He has fished offshore trolling for big game fish, bottom fished and gone out on Party Boats. He has fished and gigged the sound for flounder and surf fished from Nags Head to Ocracoke for Red Drum and Blue Fish. Dan has caught almost every species of Atlantic fish prying the waters of the Outer Banks.
In 2004 Dan and his family purchased a 2nd home on the Outer Banks and now spend as much time as they can spare there. His favorite fishing spots are Ramp 34, Cape Point, and The Bite. Visit his website at http://www.saltysport.com

how do bill clinton and w differ in how they handle terrorists?

in 93 when the first NYTC was bombed, clinton hunted down the terrorists, and they serving life sentences.....after 911 bush trampled the US constitution, ignored bin laden, put together a laughable war plan using too few troops in crap humvees honestly believing the US could plant a US flag in Baghdad without resistance.........$500 billion dollars and 3500 dead US troops later, the reputation of the US is a joke, and iraq is now a training ground for the Al Quaida, which is documented by many experts as being as strong now as it was on 911, and getting stronger.........and the bushies claim w is keeping us safe because we havent had another 911...

it took terrorists 7 years, 1993-2000, to launch a second attack on the NYTC.......who will the bushies blame when the US is hit again?

I only hope we can get rid of W as soon as possible.

This is not an article about how to get free health care insurance or insurance coverage. This article addresses how to get free medical care in certain circumstances.

Hospital Care

If you are ever in need to hospital care, expect even a short stay to cost tens of thousands of dollars. If you do not have health insurance coverage, just a stay of a few days can bring you financial ruin and bankruptcy. If you need hospital care and do not have insurance or cannot afford to pay for the care, contact the Hill-Burton Hotline at 800-638-0742. Through this program, hundreds of hospitals and care facilities participate in a no-cost program for providing health care services to those who cannot pay.

In 1946, Congress passed a law that gave hospitals, nursing homes and other health facilities grants and loans for construction and modernization. In return, they agreed to provide a reasonable volume of services to persons unable to pay and to make their services available to all persons residing in the facility's area. The program stopped providing funds in 1997, but about 200 health care facilities nationwide are still obligated to provide free or reduced-cost care.

Eye Care

Buy a newspaper or pick up a Yellow pages and check out the community service section pages. Often there will be announcements by the Kiwanis or Lions Clubs of America discussing programs that provide for free or very low-cost eye care services, eyeglasses and eye exams. There may also be help from your individual state's Elderly or Aging Office. Each state is different but most have a wide variety of eye-care programs. You can find more information at http://www.eldercare.gov

Free Dental Care

When you are in need of dental services, consider having these service performed at any one of more than 50 dental schools across the country. Each dental school operates a learning clinic that provides basic dentistry services that include cleanings, X-rays, checkups and fillings. Each clinic is different but there is a good chance that you can also get more advanced services such as crowns, root canal, bridges and denture work done at greatly reduced prices. The savings come from the fact that students do the work but they are learning under the direct supervision of licensed professors. To locate a dental school, just go the American Dental Education Associations web site at http://www.adea.org. Look for a link about "Dental Schools" or something referring to education programs. While at the site, check for a list of dentists who volunteer their services to assist those without insurance and who cannot afford to pay for basic dental care.

You can also check with colleges and universities in your area directly and inquire as to whether or not they have dental schools and a program similar to the one described herein.

Will the car dealer accept this?

I want to trade in my Dakota for a used car at a much lower price.

I owe $17,000 on the truck which is used. I had a 2006 Hyundai Tiburon which I bought new and traded that in to get the truck. that added about $7000 onto the truck price cus I owed alot more than it was worth.

Here I'm trying to do the same thing. I owe $17,000 but would put $2000 into that to make it $15,000. I'm hoping but doubtful I can get a trade in of $10000 for my truck. (2003 Dakota 4WD Reg. Cab 39,000 miles with Bed Liner, auto windows, locks, cd player.)

I would like to get a cheaper car thats is around $6000-7000 and then add the rest of the truck payment onto that so it would be about $11000 - 12,000.

I figure this would drop my monthly payment by over $120 and I'd have better gas mileage.

Do you think they would accept? I do not see why not.

The dealership is in business to make money. Most dealers do not have many cars in the 6-7000 range. Your best bet would to try and sell your car on your own. Trade in would not
work as you owe to much on this car. When you owe more on your car it is not a smart idea to add that loan to a second
loan as the interest kills you and you also start out owing more then the car is worth.

West Germany is still occupied by elements of the US Army. Any extremism in the late 40s or early 50s would have been met by the US Army arresting and prosecuting the radicals.

A ceramic sharpener, like other knife sharpeners, work by removing a very thin layer of metal from the blade of your knife. Ceramic sharpeners are made from dense ceramic material instead of stone. They are especially recommended for sharpening very hard knives. The ceramic material used is harder than other sharpening stones, and will not wear out as quickly. Softer sharpening stones can get worn down in the middle if you do a lot of sharpening, forcing you to re-surface and flatten your stone. Unlike some other knife sharpeners, they are resistant to rust as well.

The ceramic material used in such sharpeners is as hard as glass, yet still abrasive. Ceramic sharpeners will become darker as they remove layers of steel from your knives. To return the material to its original white color, simply clean it with cleanser and water. Make sure that the ceramic sharpener is dry when you use it to sharpen your knives. Most ceramic sharpeners are designed to be used dry, unlike other sharpeners which require water or oil.

Most ceramic sharpeners are in the form of a rod or bar of ceramic material. To use these sharpeners, set one end on your work surface work surface, or hold the handle in your left hand with the knife in your right hand. Holding the knife at an angle of 20-25 degrees from the rod, slice downwards drawing the knife along the blade as you do so. Some sharpeners come in a pull-through model or angled type, which can be useful in maintaining a consistent angle as you sharpen the knife.

Some ceramic sharpeners come mounted in a wooden block at an angle. In this case, hold the knife straight down to achieve the correct angle with the ceramic rod. Spend two or three minutes on each side of the blade, keeping the knife at a consistent angle to the ceramic piece. Press gently, letting the abrasive ceramic rod do the work.

Although most ceramic sharpeners are shaped like a rod, others are in the form of a wheel or flat stone, or a pull-through model that simply requires you to pull the knife through a notch in the ceramic material. Besides form, ceramic sharpeners also differ in the grit of the ceramic material. The larger the grit, the more effective they will be against badly worn blades, because they will take off more of the steel surface of the blade. However, a finer grit is necessary for achieving a very sharp blade. One side is usually ribbed or rougher than the other. First use the knife against the rough side to begin the sharpening process. Finish by sharpening the knife blade against the smoother ceramic surface.

A ceramic knife sharpener is an easy and efficient way to bring a sharp edge back to your knives, scissors, and other cutting tools. Easy to use, it is effective on a wide variety of different knives., including straight or serrated, kitchen cutlery, scissors, and other blades. Because of its hardness, a ceramic sharpener will last for years.

Sharpen 'Em offers a large selection of quality knife sharpeners from all the best manufacturers, from low-budget pocket-sized sharpeners to high-end Ceramic stones and crock sticks.
