A ceramic sharpener, like other knife sharpeners, work by removing a very thin layer of metal from the blade of your knife. Ceramic sharpeners are made from dense ceramic material instead of stone. They are especially recommended for sharpening very hard knives. The ceramic material used is harder than other sharpening stones, and will not wear out as quickly. Softer sharpening stones can get worn down in the middle if you do a lot of sharpening, forcing you to re-surface and flatten your stone. Unlike some other knife sharpeners, they are resistant to rust as well.
The ceramic material used in such sharpeners is as hard as glass, yet still abrasive. Ceramic sharpeners will become darker as they remove layers of steel from your knives. To return the material to its original white color, simply clean it with cleanser and water. Make sure that the ceramic sharpener is dry when you use it to sharpen your knives. Most ceramic sharpeners are designed to be used dry, unlike other sharpeners which require water or oil.
Most ceramic sharpeners are in the form of a rod or bar of ceramic material. To use these sharpeners, set one end on your work surface work surface, or hold the handle in your left hand with the knife in your right hand. Holding the knife at an angle of 20-25 degrees from the rod, slice downwards drawing the knife along the blade as you do so. Some sharpeners come in a pull-through model or angled type, which can be useful in maintaining a consistent angle as you sharpen the knife.
Some ceramic sharpeners come mounted in a wooden block at an angle. In this case, hold the knife straight down to achieve the correct angle with the ceramic rod. Spend two or three minutes on each side of the blade, keeping the knife at a consistent angle to the ceramic piece. Press gently, letting the abrasive ceramic rod do the work.
Although most ceramic sharpeners are shaped like a rod, others are in the form of a wheel or flat stone, or a pull-through model that simply requires you to pull the knife through a notch in the ceramic material. Besides form, ceramic sharpeners also differ in the grit of the ceramic material. The larger the grit, the more effective they will be against badly worn blades, because they will take off more of the steel surface of the blade. However, a finer grit is necessary for achieving a very sharp blade. One side is usually ribbed or rougher than the other. First use the knife against the rough side to begin the sharpening process. Finish by sharpening the knife blade against the smoother ceramic surface.

End of free speech in Britain-Geert Wilders is sent home?
The white British people. and white Europeans are being denied their freedom of expession by a Muslim minority we never invited in Europe. How sad, is this what our grandparents fought for. To be swamped with third world immigrants, to take away our free speech, rape our women, cause crime, are involved in gun crime knife crime.
The Home Office allows in every dreg of the third world into Britain, but does not allow in a White European MP.
I expect 'Platinum' lives in an unenriched area of Britain. You probably does have to experience the black gangs who roam the streets of inner city London, who made the country where you could once keep your front doors open, into a nation where people are too scared to walk the streets of the inner cities. How does black gun crime and knife crime enrich us?
Your question is wrong on so many levels.
Firstly, how is your freedom of speech affected by the exclusion from Britain of Geert Wilders? I'm "white British and white European" and I'm not affected by it. I'd rather have civil harmony, thanks. Why does your preference outweigh mine?
Secondly, how is it a Muslim minority that is doing this? Are you saying Jacqui Smith is a Muslim? That there is some kind of Muslim cabal running Whitehall? That the UK Border Agency is in the pay of the Ayatollah?
Thirdly, who gave you or anybody else the right to invite people in and out of Europe? We drifted here ourselves, you know. Nobody lived on these islands originally - we're all immigrants.
I think you'll find our grandparents, a generation of white Europeans, fought against a regime of white Europeans, and were assisted bravely by people from around the world, regardless of race. There were no black Nazis, but there were plenty of Commonwealth subjects fighting alongside us.
We are not "swamped" by third world immigrants. (I assume you are equating "third world" with "non-white"). Less than 8% of the population is non-white. That is not swamping.
Lastly, and most importantly, what gives you the right, and what is your reason, for abandoning traditional British values of moderation, reason, good neighbourliness and tolerance? I find your allegations - that third world immigrants "take away our free speech, rape our women, cause crime, are involved in gun crime knife crime" to be ill-informed, intemperate, racist, malicious and vile, not to mention badly-punctuated.
I would happily swap you for ten million "third world immigrants" if you took your unpleasant, un-British views with you. Don't you dare presume to speak for the British people - you certainly have nothing to say on my behalf.
RESPONSE: I grew up in East London, mate. And I've lived in Stoke-on-Trent. So I know what deprivation is like. I also know who to attribute it to: lazy, intolerant people who believe that they are entitled to things rather than having to earn them through sheer merit.
With your whole "we used to leave our doors open" thing, presumably you are harking back to the glory days of the sixties, when there was no such thing as violent crime or gang warfare? Because there was never anything like that among the whites of East London or other inner cities...
