The limit is 6 inchs, so a 5 inch is fine on your belt, but try not to wear it into town regardless. City folk don’t understand the difference between a tool and a hold-up weapon and sadly so do some of the police. I have a friend who walked into A&W or something like that, and when he went to pay he took a dinky little pocket knife out and set it one the counter to get to his wallet. Well, the guy at the till let out a little girly yelp and jumped back with his hands up. The guy told him to stop being a “dummy” (not real word used), paid him for the meal and left.
Wearing A Sheath (hunting) Knife In Public In Canada. What Are The Rules?
I Spend alot of time canoeing, hunting, fishing, woodworking, etc. because I'm from rural newfoundland, thats just what we do.
but I was wondering, if, on my way immediately after doing one of these activities, I forget to take my knife off my belt. it isnt concealed, the one i usually carry is 5" long. is it alright?

I don’t know what the rules exactly are. I can understand some places like gas stations and liquor stores being a little weary if they see you with a knife. There have been some nasty robberies at knife point in Newfoundland ( mostly in town though) in the last little while.
Try the RCMP website or the RNC site or even Government of NL to see if there are any official rules. From my experience some places in smaller communities are pretty understanding with something like that. a gun would be a different issue though.
It’s likely there is some sort of law against carrying a hunting knife but honestly I don’t know much about it.
