What Is The Law Regarding Carrying A Hunting Knife?

By Jeff On September 11, 2009 Under Knife Hunting

A group of us are going trekking through wales in a few weeks, and we will be fishing etc.
I have a 5" sheathed knife with the whole camping kit built in, compass, matches, everything, and will be using it to gut fish etc.
Is it legal to carry it on my person? It will be in my backpack the majority of the time.
Thanks for any advice :-)

U should be ok, it is unlawful to carry an offensive weapon in a public place so really up to any police whether they deem it an offensive weapon. If you are genuinely using it as part of the trek then you will be fine. If you were walking around town with it in your hand that would be a different matter.

As shaun said. You are carrying it for a specific reason that doesn’t involve hurting anyone else so it should be fine.
It’s a bit cold to be treking around Wales isn’t it?
Advice – stay home till the weather gets a bit warmer! :-)
