Black Hawk makes some very nice knives. Another really good brand you should look at is Benchmade. They are some of the finest knives out there. Maybe they are a little less on the hunting side. But they are great. If you are looking to just carry or collect nice quality knives, Pro-Tech also makes some great knives. They are incredible. A really good Benchmade knife to start with is the BEN2550.

Some great answers here.
I agree that hunting knives and combat knives are generally different.
I also agree that Cold Steel markets the best knives that you can buy. But, they are most certainly on the pricey side!
Most oldtimers like a simple fixed blade knife. Something with a 5 or 6 inch blade usually does the trick.
I also like the recomendeation here of the Ka-Bar Marine Corps knife. Those things are great. But, be sure to get a genuine Ka-Bar and not some cheap knockoff.

Cold Steel makes the best knives on the market. Below is a link to a nice one that could be used for both combat and hunting.
Get one that you really want for hunting and camp chores, as the odds of you needing one for combat are pretty much nil, and if you eventually do, a good fixed blade hunting knife will suffice.

Cold Steel, SOG, Benchmade, Buck, Gerber all make good knives
KaBar and Ontario are also pretty good
Blackhawk does make good stuff
I’m partial to Columbia River Knife & Tool
really a 4 to 6 inch blade would be most useful but I have to admit I like the Cold Steel Recon Bowie (no longer available) or SRK, The SOG Seal knife (and Pup)http://www.eknifeworks.com/webapp/eComme…http://www.eknifeworks.com/webapp/eComme…

It depends on your budget really, but I’d say the top of my list are the Sog Seal Team or Seal Pup knives, or a Ka-Bar Fighting knives.

There are a lot on the Market, the better ones have a solid Tang, It’s where the blade joins the Handle.
I’d go for a Khukri http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=FTbuG–UKO…

Get a Ka-Bar. It has served the military very well for decades. I use one – it holds an edge very well and is sturdy enough to do anything.

Get a buck knife – cheap, effective, I’ve used it for about ten years and it’s still sharp!
