Man get this. Walmart is selling boxed sets of Winchester brand knives. They come 3 to a box and the prices are either $10 for the small knives and $20 for the larger set.
These knives are made in China. Ok. But guess what? I recently purchased 3 different new Buck knifes (Buck brand) and they TOO are made in China.
For the price…$10 to $20 for a boxed set of 3, you just can’t go wrong. The quality and workmanship are great. And, the smaller set comes with 2 pocket knives and 1 medium sized sheath knife. The larger set comes with 3 big game knives.
Not all Walmart stores have these, but the ones that do, will be selling them in their sporting goods department.

This guy (David Winston from Starkville MS) makes some of the best knives you’ll put your hands on. He hand makes every knife and can make any knife imaginable. The ones on his galleries are just a small example of his knives. Ask him for more ideas and he will be glad to help. When you get a knife from him it will be of the highest quality and extremely sharp (use shaving cream while testing for sharpness). I got one for my dad. Truth be known I almost kept it for myself. It was very difficult to give away a knife I really liked and would have wanted for myself. He makes handles with anything from camel bone, walrus tusks, deer antlers, elephant tusks, etc. He takes and polishes the bone until it shines. http://winstonknives.blademakers.com/
May I suggest a damascus blade. It’s beautiful.

It all depends on how knowledgable he is on knives and how much your willing to spend. In my opinion, ColdSteel makes the strongest and toughest knives. I personally reccomend their Gunsite series or the Voyager series folder knives with the Tanto Blade. The blade is indestructable. He would never break the tip off like what happens with alot of other cheaper metals. The blade lock is also rated at 200 lbs which will ensure that it never has a mechanical failure which could really cut someone deep. The coldsteel website has all their products but looks really over priced. Go to a local outdoors store or check ebay and you can find em for 30 bucks less.

Gerber has a nice 3 pc set. comes with a regular folding lock blade used to do the majority of gutting, a ripper( looks like a c) used only to rip open skin, and a bone saw for splitting the pelvis. All three fit in case that can be worn on belt. Used this set for years, works great and not too much to carry.

Well I imagine you don’t want to go out and spend 200 on a knife so get something like a buck 119. you can get them at walmart for about 35. I bought one a few months ago and it works very nicely. iIf you are willing to spend a little more around the 60$ range then a Cold Steel SRK works fantastic. I have used it for everything. Machete, fillet knife, field dressing knife, pry bar, etc….

I like the Outdoor Edge set that has a skinning knife, caping knife, and saw. They are about $79. If that’s too much money, any Gerber, Buck, or Kershaw will work. The only problem I’ve had is the Kershaw that uses exchangeable blades. The handle clamp that holds the blade gets loose. If you bend it tight, it will hold the blades tight again.

i would go with the Buck 119 i`ve had one for over 15 years and have skinned at least 2 deer per year and have used it for breaking the pelvis on a deer many a time, stays sharp too!
